Judging

When you judge someone, you take on that characteristic.  Why?  Because at that moment the judgement is in your mind, like a picture. And since the picture is in your mind, it’s now part of you.  Is that what you want?

That little piece of negativity, now added to the fiction that is you, great!

As if that’s not enough, the judgement is not real because it is probably rooted in the past- either a past experience with that person, or your own past history and conditioning from how you were brought up, or your cultural conditioning.

Besides, the person may not even be what you think at that moment-  you could be factually wrong.  And even if your judgement is correct at that moment, the person can change tomorrow.  So you’d be holding that opinion, a false one, within yourself, forever.

It is just so much easier to let go of judgements.  Now if you can’t do that, then at least go for it all the way, and judge totally, in writing, and do a “Judge Your Neighbor” worksheet.   See Byron Katie’s website for instructions on this.

  1. Sorry, Mike, but what you said above is just pure nonsense!
